Metal Roof

This rusty metal roof that leaked every time it rained is like many of the metal roofs that we deal with every day. To start, every square inch of this roof was power-washed using over 3,000 pounds of pressure to ensure that the roof coating system would fully adhere to the metal. After power washing, American WeatherStar Rust Prime 910 was liberally applied to the entire roof area. The rust primer is only necessary where visible rust is apparent and as you can see, this entire metal roof definitely needed it.

After priming the roof, the waterproofing stage beings. Every penetration, fastener, and seam was addressed to make sure they do not allow water to pass through the panels and into the building. On this roof, WeatherStar Polyester Fabric was used with WeatherStar Acrylic Coating 211 on every seam and penetration, and AWS Brush-Grade 220 was applied to every fastener to ensure all are water-tight.

The final stage was to apply two coats of a durable elastomeric top coat over the entire roof to form a seamless rubber-like membrane that will keep this building cool and dry for years to come. Other WeatherStar top coats that work well on metal roofs include AWS Butyl 310, AWS Urethane 520, or either the AWS Fast Set Urethane 530 or the AWS Polyurea 550.
